David C. Schwab is in his eleventh year as an investment professional and has built Sierra Ventures’ software investment practice. Dave began his professional career as a software engineer and engineering manager for 5 years at Lockheed Corporation. He subsequently earned an M.B.A. from Harvard Business School and then returned to Silicon Valley to work in sales and sales management at Sun Microsystems, where he was repeatedly one of the highest producing sales executives in the company and subsequently promoted to a variety of Sun sales management positions. Dave co-founded Scopus Technology (NASD-SCOP), serving as Vice President of Sales. Scopus was taken public by Morgan Stanley and subsequently acquired by Siebel Systems in a $480 million transaction. In addition to his M.B.A., Dave holds two graduate engineering degrees from Stanford University and an undergraduate engineering degree from UC San Diego.
Dave’s primary investment focus is Enterprise software, both applications and infrastructure. Among the portfolio companies Dave has worked with in the past are MicroMuse Corp. (NASD-MUSE) sold to IBM, OnLink Technologies, Inc. sold to Siebel Systems, Inc., SalesLogix, Inc. (NASD-SLGX) sold to Sage Software, Inc., FatBrain (NASD-FATB) sold to Barnes & Noble, and 360Commerce, Inc. sold to Oracle Corporation. He is currently on the board of Accruent, Inc., ClearApp, Inc., Corrigo, Inc., DBS Communications, Inc., Parature Inc. and Zoom Systems.
