Here at Revionics, we like to continuously improve the outstanding experience at Revionics Insight so it gets richer and more impactful every single year. Now in its ninth year, Insight is a well-respected institution for the actionable, inspiring content from retail innovators, industry analysts and Revionics executives and technologists, and for the ample opportunities for professional and personal growth through networking events and training offerings. We also bring a community engagement element to it, working to support a not-for-profit doing good works in the community where we’re hosting the event.
This year we took our good citizenship element up a notch with Pay It Forward, a way for Revionics AND our retail customers to give back to the community, and I had the honor of leading the selection, planning and execution process for the entire project.
We zeroed in on the idea of helping out homeless people in the Chicago area, and we were honored partner with the People’s Resource Center . Since 1975 they have provided free programs to help break the cycle of poverty in inner-city neighborhoods to nearly 30,000 residents per month. The People’s Resource Center provides food, clothing and rent assistance, and offers skill-building resources, such as literacy classes, job assistance, computer training, and art. The People’s Resource Center worked hands-on with me to get this partnership going from the very beginning. Their ongoing support throughout the entire process made partnering with them an absolute pleasure.
Many people who are suffering from or potentially facing homelessness rely on food stamps for their daily nutrition; however, non-food items cannot be purchased with food stamps. The goal of our program was to fill the gap for some of People’s Resource Center’s clients while bringing retailers from around the world together for Insight.
With Revionics’ employee donations and corporate price-matching program, plus fantastic support from our wonderful retail customers including Houchens Industries and Dick’s Sporting Goods, as well as the event venue Swissotel Chicago, we were able to collect nearly $5,000 of donated items to put in the care packages, ranging from reusable plastic water bottles to toothbrush kits.
The experience of retailers and Revionics team members working side by side to assemble care kits during the Welcome Reception was truly moving. We had set an aggressive goal of filling 350 bags, and to our amazement, all 500+ bags were filled within 3 hours of the welcome event kick-off! Wave after wave, attendees lined up to assemble the care kits. As the reception went on, many attendees came back multiple times to fill yet another bag, then another – the enthusiasm was infectious. Pay It Forward’s raging success showed us once again that Revionics employees and customers are the absolute best!
The People’s Resource Center was so excited to receive our donation that the minute the bags arrived, they started distributing them out to people who needed them the most, even tweeting out acknowledgement with some memorable photos.
Revionics Insight is a remarkable industry event for its quality of content and execution, and it’s a highlight that many retailers look forward to year after year. It makes me particularly proud that Insight has such a touching human element as well, one that enables our attendees to connect not only professionally but on a personal level, all while benefiting our host community. We look forward to bringing the Pay It Forward spirit to Insight 2019 in beautiful San Diego next year!
