Hello! Salut! Hallo! Ciao! Hej! Czesc! Shalom! 11 observations from NRF!!!
January 17, 2016 Revionics

Day 1 of NRF is on the books and here are some quick observations:

  1. Sunday is always fun as the Javits Center is abuzz with fresh energy, as well as a very large contingent of international attendees. International attendees are incredibly unconcerned about the NFL Playoffs.
  2. Lots of buzz this year about “speaking customer,” “reaching the customer’s heart,” “thinking like a customer,” “placing the customer at the center.”  This is not really too different from any other year but the technology seems to have caught up with the intent.
  3. Early in the morning and late in the day the booths with coffee are the most popular.
  4. Insta-cookies—cookies with your picture printed on them—are a big hit. Come by and get one at our booth 2962.
  5. Responsive Merchandising seems to be gaining legs and many retailers are curious on how to implement it successfully.
  6. Just like I predicted in my post “Twas the Night before NRF,” it did indeed snow in NYC.
  7. For retailers that have not implemented Price Optimization this is the year. The booth was busy with international retailers (it was Sunday) wanting to know how to take the plunge and really start maximizing revenue and profit.
  8. For retailers that are already optimizing price this is the year to incorporate Promotion Optimization and Markdown Optimization.   We saw many familiar faces yesterday come by to discuss.
  9. I need better shoes. Man, my feet are barking.  It feels like the old days running the floor at Best Buy and hhgregg.  A smart shoe retailer could do a promotion to customers at the end of opening day of the tradeshows they attend.
  10. Some great sessions are going on today.   If you can’t make our “Death by Discount Cycle” session with Sally Beauty swing by the booth and speak to the team to learn more. While you are at it grab some coffee and a delicious pastry.  Booth 2982
  11. Try the Brooklyn Diner, the largest hot dog and pot pie you have ever seen! Not to mention, incredible desserts!!!
